ROUTE | AN AESTHETIC OF UNVEILING

The collision between the Sacred and the prosaic human being are defining Candice Cellier’s investigations.

Candice Cellier is an artist living in Paris, graduated from La Cambre (Brussels). 
She has been photographing in operating theaters since 2006 and in particular in the Maxillofacial Surgery department of La Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris since 2011. 

Her work explores Man’s relationship to the world, to the sacred, to his body; it focuses on the most personal, the darkest, the most off-beat aspects of these bodies that have become matter, in search of identity, in search of an existence of their own.
In her latest series, currently in production, 127 °, she once again photographs people in search of identity, in transformation: teen girls. Femininity, in all its complexity, in all its variability, in all its beauty and individuality in terms of the group.

Une maladie, un accident, une balle de Kalach’.
Ceux qui perdent leur visage se rendent invisibles au monde.
Retrouveront-ils la lumière, se retrouveront-ils ? L’œil de Candice Cellier, artiste photographe, 38 ans, scrute en des lieux que fuit le commun des mortels, des ballets dont le spectacle vous effraierait, et des matières que vous n’aimeriez pas voir.
L’objectif capture ce qui se cache au monde, et restera hors champ… ou pas. L’invisibilité est un cadenas : la matière vivante le verrouille, programmant sa propre disparition.
Mais l’âme n’abdique pas facilement, et parfois saute le loquet. Candice, elle, assiste aux spasmes de l’âme. Quelque lumière qu’il réfléchisse, possible que son petit miroir ait joué un rôle dans la casse.
